bluntness

It has always been amazing to me, how lack of bluntness people can be, while requiring bluntness ( yeah- the thought would cause me to scratch my head as well...to continue).... The person looks at your face and say ( I am making up a name here..) John, what is the matter, he hesitates knowing his facial expression is saying one thing, but his mouth is trembling to keep his thought to himself... But- noooo, she is pushing to know what it is... ( eeek) .... Then he says it, she squeals, slaps him, all while saying how could you say such a thing...( ok ok the suspense is killing- you I know.... what did he say?..well in the bluntness, not so bluntness- He told her she had a Booger in her nose... So, moral of the story- John was too Blunt and now he has lost the opportunity to go on another date with her.. ( life of bluntness)..

  1. Cool post. Telling someone there's something in their nose is pretty awkward.

  2. Personally, I would prefer being told about "the obvious" (bluntness awaral) rather than be embarrassed in some other way because someone else felt it too embarrassing to bring "the obvious" to my attention. With that said, I'm under the impression that people would feel more embarrassment to walk around with a booger in their nose compared to the number of people in your face who don't tell you it's there--would feel.
Being blunt has it's down side if there's no tactfulness in how the message is delivered,
however, it removes space for ambiguity.

  3. Good point. I believe I would tell someone they have something in their nose or teeth but I had a hard time telling a friend their breathe was bad. I think it may have been a medical condition. I always wondered if that made me a bad friend for not saying something. I wonder howcI would feel if someone said that to me? Would I be more embarrassed than appreciative?

  5. Overly prideful people tend to react in an adverse way when someone - out of the kindness of their heart- points out anything that could be considered a flaw, to one who suffers from this nature. I'm sorry to hear John got slapped. Perhaps if he had said, "there is something in your nose" as opposed to saying, "you have a BOOGER in your nose", the outcome would have been different.
